Death Came in the Winter By Wayne Russell

Winds howl through

drafty windowpanes

snow globe encirclement-

Can you hear sleigh bells ring?

The flowers have all died

and rot in their vase

and the ashes of a romance

have now been scattered

they dance across the frigid

river, they twirl and disintegrate

the snow has buried what was

sacred, and now we move on

into the remnants of lives lived,

alone.
